Specializations

I specialize in supporting adults from Black/African-American and other communities of color who are seeking support for concerns related to sexual trauma and other various traumatic circumstances, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), race-based traumatic stress, multicultural concerns, and overall mental and emotional wellness. My therapeutic approach includes person-centered, cognitive-behavioral, and mindfulness. My approach is grounded in trauma-informed care, and I employ evidenced-based therapeutic modalities to empower clients to navigate their healing journey.

As a mental health therapist with training and experience as a yoga teacher, my therapy approach integrates the principles of mindfulness, breath awareness, and body-mind connection. I believe in the powerful synergy between mental and physical well-being, and I use these principles to guide our therapeutic journey. Together, we explore how your thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations intersect, empowering you to develop greater self-awareness, resilience, and inner balance. This holistic approach allows us to address your mental health from a comprehensive standpoint, fostering not only emotional healing but also physical and spiritual well-being.

Q&A

What can I expect from therapy?

In therapy, you can expect a safe, nonjudgmental space to explore your thoughts and feelings. We’ll work collaboratively to address your concerns, develop coping strategies, and promote personal growth and positive changes in your life.

How long does a therapy session typically last?

A typical therapy session lasts 50 minutes, but the frequency and duration may vary depending on your specific needs and goals.

How frequently should I attend therapy sessions?

The frequency of therapy sessions varies based on individual needs and goals. Initially, sessions are often scheduled once a week, but this can be adjusted as we work together to best meet your unique needs.

How can therapy help with my specific concerns or challenges?

Therapy can be a valuable resource for addressing your specific concerns or challenges. It offers a safe and supportive environment where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Together, we’ll work to understand the root causes of your concerns and develop strategies to help you manage and overcome them. Therapy can provide you with tools for personal growth, improved relationships, and enhanced well-being.

Do you accept insurance, and how does billing work?

Yes, I accept insurance and work with Grow Therapy and Headway for billing. To utilize your insurance coverage, please provide your insurance information during the intake process, and we will handle the billing on your behalf. You may be responsible for any copayments or deductibles as per your insurance plan.

It’s important to note that insurance billing typically requires a diagnosis to be provided. This is primarily for the purpose of insurance reimbursement, as insurance companies use diagnostic codes to determine coverage. It’s a standard practice that helps ensure clients receive financial support for their treatment. Self-pay clients have the flexibility to engage in therapy without the need for a diagnostic label. This can provide more privacy and autonomy in your therapeutic journey.

What is the self-pay rate for therapy sessions?

The self-pay rate for therapy sessions is $120 per session. Opting for self-pay offers several benefits, including greater flexibility and privacy. Self-pay clients have more control over their therapy process and don’t need to involve insurance providers. It can also be advantageous for those concerned about maintaining confidentiality, as self-pay doesn’t involve insurance billing records.

Is there a sliding scale option for clients with financial constraints?

Yes, there is a sliding scale option available for clients facing financial constraints. The specific fee within the sliding scale will be determined through a discussion based on your financial situation and needs. My goal is to make therapy accessible to everyone, and if, for any reason, the sliding scale doesn’t align with your financial need, I can also assist you in finding referrals to other professionals who may be a better fit for your budget and requirements.

What is your approach to confidentiality and privacy?

I prioritize the confidentiality and privacy of our therapeutic relationship. I offer services through telehealth, utilizing HIPAA-compliant platforms and secure phone services to ensure that our communications remain confidential. Your personal information and the content of our sessions are safeguarded according to the highest standards of privacy protection. If you have any specific concerns about confidentiality or privacy, please don’t hesitate to discuss them with me.

How can I schedule an initial consultation or appointment?

To schedule a consultation, fill out the contact form on my website. Following that, I will send you a Calendly link via email to schedule a 15-minute consultation. If we both feel it’s a good match, we’ll move forward to set up an intake appointment.

Do you offer teletherapy or online counseling services?

I exclusively provide services through telehealth using HIPAA-compliant video conferencing. Some of the benefits of telehealth include:

  1. Convenience: Access therapy from the comfort of your own space, eliminating the need for travel.
  2. Privacy: Enjoy confidential and secure discussions within the confines of your chosen environment.
  3. Time Efficiency: Save time commuting, making therapy more time-efficient for your daily routine.
  4. Comfort: Foster a sense of security and ease by engaging in therapy from a familiar setting.
How do you handle emergencies or crisis situations outside of regular sessions?

In the event of a crisis or emergency outside of our regular sessions, I strongly recommend that you immediately contact the National Suicide and Crisis Hotline at 9-8-8 or dial 911 for immediate assistance. Your safety is paramount, and these resources are available 24/7 to provide you with immediate support.

If your concern is not an emergency but you would like to speak with me sooner than our scheduled appointment, please feel free to reach out via phone or email to check my availability. I’ll do my best to accommodate you and provide the support you need as soon as possible.

What should I do if I need to cancel or reschedule an appointment?

To cancel or reschedule a therapy appointment, please provide at least 24 hours’ notice. Failure to do so will incur a $50 fee. You can contact me via phone, text, or email to cancel/reschedule, or use the client portal for convenient management of your appointments.

How do you approach cultural sensitivity and diversity in therapy?

Cultural sensitivity and diversity are fundamental aspects of my therapeutic approach. I’m committed to creating a safe and inclusive space where all cultural backgrounds are respected and celebrated.

I believe that a person’s cultural identity is an integral part of who they are, and I strive to understand and honor this diversity. I actively seek to deepen my cultural competence through ongoing education and self-reflection.

In therapy, we will explore how your cultural background influences your experiences, values, and beliefs. This exploration can provide valuable insights into your challenges and strengths. I work collaboratively with you to ensure that our therapy aligns with your cultural needs and preferences.

My goal is to promote cultural awareness, foster a sense of belonging, and empower you to navigate your unique life journey. Your cultural identity is an important aspect of our work together, and it will be respected and integrated into our therapeutic process.
